Such is their love for beautifully crafted bier – in 1516 Duke Wilhelm IV decreed that bier can only be made from four natural ingredients – yeast, malt, hops and water – thus ensuring the quality and purity of the bier. This “Bavarian Purity Law” still applies today, and ensures that only the finest of bier is produced in Bavaria.
